Mission Projects
In Shannon's Shoes supports mission work though The Giving Tree, Oasis Mission Trips, and other mission projects involving hands-on youth participation.
Mission Accomplishments
Past mission trips involved repairs to 4 homes that were severely damaged by Hurricane Rita and a shelter for battered women and children. This included scraping, painting, removing and replacing siding, roof repairs, making window and door screens, fence repairs and stabilizing a swing set. Food was collected and purchased to stock a food bank with a 3 months supply. Vacation Bible school was held and books distributed to a group of underprivileged children.
For a Spring project, over 1,200 pairs of shoes were collected, purchased and distributed to some of Houston's homeless persons and to the Star of Hope Mission. Our Giving Tree project continues as an ongoing mission project.

Methodist Hospital Pediatric Wing
Recently, Methodist Hospital Willowbrook converted one of its adult wings to a pediatric wing. In 2011, in order to make the floor more kid-friendly, John Wesley youth created artwork to hang in the wing. In addition, teddy bears were provided to the hospital for the children to have and take home. Youth-sized hospital gowns were also purchased and given to the pediatric unit.
The Giving Tree
Building on the success of early projects, In Shannon's Shoes is expanding the reach of mission work by providing seed money to local youth ministries with the following initiatives.
- John Wesley United Methodist Church Project
Oasis Mission Trips
The Oasis summer mission trips are open to junior high and senior high school students who want to contribute to communities in need. Read more about this important mission and how you can get involved. Read about Oasis.
Local Community Service Projects
In the summer of 2010, youth from the community participated in a number of one-day work projects to assist those in need of home repairs. Materials for these projects were provided by the Shannon Stovall Youth Mission Fund. In addition to assisting those with needs, the youth improved their work skills, giving them confidence as they prepared for more difficult projects ahead.
In August 2010, John Wesley Youth served 100 hot meals to local homeless at the Lord of the Streets Episcopal Church in downtown Houston. The food was provided by the Shannon Stovall Fund in partnership with County Line Barbeque, 13850 Cutten Road, Houston.
